From a Village Dream to a Business of Her Own
Mrs. Trashi Wangmo grew up in the quiet village of Romang in Kengkhar, Mongar. She never had the chance to go to school and spent her early years working on her family’s farm. At just 15, she came to Thimphu in search of a better future, working for years as a babysitter for a very modest wage, saving what little she could and sending support home.
Life was not easy. After losing her brother, she returned to her grandparents for a time to heal. But with courage and determination, she came back to Thimphu to rebuild her life
In 2022, Trashi took a bold step with RENEW Microfinance. She began saving and took her first loan of Nu. 50,000 to start a small Pani Puri (Puckha) supply business. With hard work and discipline, her business grew. Today, after expanding with further loans, she supplies across several areas of Thimphu and earns a steady daily income
Together, they have improved their family’s life, repaired their homes, and are raising two children with hope and stability while repaying their loans on time and with pride
